Date 26/03.2011 Tring station through the chilterns then back along the canal.

Distance 11.8 Miles - time taken 3h 50m 37s total ascent 908ft

Great walk again starting from Tring station, then going through the North Chilterns into the Ashridge Estate and ending up walking along the Grand Union Canal back to Tring. Most of this walk covers an area we have already detailed in previous web pages in the chilterns, So we will only include details of the new parts of the route.

Norcott Hall and farm.

I thought that this grand house was very old, so i looked it up on the net and found the following information. It was in fact built around the early 1900,s. The first person recorded to have lived there was a Thomas Geoffrey Blackwell he died in 1943, he was the deputy chairman of cross & Blackwell. It is well worth a walk round this area and they have made it all look very grand. There other buildings around witch to look excellent.

Tring Marina.

we then picked up the Grand Union Canal and headed back to tring station. We past the marina witch has room for about 100 boats and looks very neat and tidy. The towpath is in great condition so made easy walking back to the car.

We went under a few bridges with this one above (
number 137) this old bridge dates from c 1799 and is grade 2 listed. if you go up this one you will find a public house the cowroast Inn just down the road. The bridge you need to get back to Tring station is number 135 just go under it then up the ramp to station road then back to station car park
