You cannot miss this mountain wainwright’s favourite fell that sits just off the main route into keswick. Wainwright wrote more on this mountain than any other and you will find it in his book the Northern fells. Many routes up can be found some easy and some bloody dangerous, -

Great Gable from Green gable summit

It was many years ago that I stood on the banks of Waswater and looked up at the pyramid shaped mountain Great Gable and wanted to climb it, its the familiar view that the National Trust use for their logo. I was on my own for this walk with Gail walking down in the valley around Buttermere, something I don’t recommend for gable due to the nature of the climb and just hoped I could tag onto someone just to keep an eye open -
