Lake District Walking April 2013

We arrived in the Lake District in some of the worst weather we have ever seen up there. Our aim was to make four to five walks but it turned into a two walk trip and just two fells claimed. The cloud base was very low on all the days, sometimes only just 300 metres, and the peaks were covered in mist, however it was the wind that stopped us going too high, speeds up to 40mph on the top of sail fell just drove the rain into everywhere. However the second walk turned into a classic Lakeland hike and both of us agreed one of the best. This was the big weekend when we finally arrived at our 500th mile, and after the two walks we currently stand at 503miles. Due to the weather we also made many trips in the Town and Villages of the lakes including Coniston, Ambleside, Ennerdale Bridge, Kirkland, Honister, Buttermere, Boot, Cockermouth, and a great trip up the Hardknott pass again.. Please click on the trips below to follow the walks we did, all come with fully downloadable GPS data from my Garmin device. Please take care when climbing the fells and always make sure you take you take a map and know how to use it.

The walk started from the Pheasant Inn a really great looking ale house and Hotel, we had a pint in here when we done the walk and i would recommend it, a large selection of real ales went down a treat. Sail fell stands at 359m

This Walk was found in Trail Magazine, these lot are known for loving hard walks and I can see why with this little gem. It takes you right into the hills overlooking some great villages and spectacular views over the Cumbrian mountains

Just a note for anybody who is a lover of real ale, we visit many Ale houses on our trips but the lakes have the best. The lake district is served by the Jennings Brewery and I tried my best to get through as many as possible. I can fully recommend the following Inns for the beer

The fish hotel  buttermere
he pheasant  Bassenthwaite Lake
Banks tavern Keswick
The red lion hawkahead
The Inn at Keswick
The crown inn coniston
